OfficeTeam and the International Association of Administrative Professionals®(IAAP®) surveyed managers and administrative professionals to learn how support staff can take on more responsibilities in the areas of technology and social media, cost control, hiring, corporate events and social responsibility to help propel their companies forward.

Here are some highlights from the research:
- More than eight in 10 administrative professionals have taken employer-sponsored courses in accounting, budgeting, purchasing and negotiation when offered; 94 percent reported that these classes have helped them be more cost-effective at work.
- Ninety-six percent of support staff said they would find leadership training valuable. However, 51 percent said their employers do not offer these courses to administrative staff.
- Sixty percent of administrative professionals said they would like to assist with event planning at work. And 53 percent want to help with controlling costs and organizing corporate social responsibility activities.
